I have just purchased a used Yamaha XA12-- waverunner. I have no experience whatsoever in this. Culd someone please let me know how often to change oil and what to do to winterize it

Make sure you get a quality cover for it. The cheapest covers dont offer the protection from sun that covercraft does. They also add features such as anti scratch material in key locations inside the cover and access to gas cap with cover installed.

XA12??? are you looking at the serial numbers on the electrical box?? i think you have a gp1200r.... if thats the case you dont need to change the oil cuz its an oil injected 2 stroke, just make sure theres oil in the oil tank before you ride....as for winterizing, empty the fuel tank, flush all the water out of the system, some people put anti freeze in the lines. make sure its covered tight, also stuff something in the exhaust next to the jetpump so critters cant crawl up in the motor... or you could move to the south. i winterize mine by riding it all winter
