Hi, Just developed a new fault on my Yamaha WR500 Starts and runs fine at idle / low revs, but as soon as you rev it up it starts to cutout almost as if it's hitting the rev limiter, but at nowhere near full rpm doesn't actually stall Checked overheat sensor - all OK. Compression is 140Psi on both cylinders, 3 sets of plugs tried - same result. Done all those tests:- Coil HT ..........5.5 Kohms Coil LT ..........0.3 ohms Lighting Coil ....1.2 ohms Pulser coil ......104 ohms charge coil .......88 ohms Also trimed ht leads back 2 inches to clean wires and refitted caps Connected a strobe light and ran it, light fires OK until you rev it then at the same time as it appears to hit the rev limiter the strobe goes out as it stutters, indicating that the spark is switching off - it's the same for both plugs. Connected a 12v light to the LT side of the coil and that also dims/goes out as the engine stutters, it is just like it is hitting the rev limiter, but why would it cut in so early? Faulty rev limiter??? wiring CDI problem??? Any ideas? Cheers, Tony.
