I have a 1994 Kawasaki SuperSport.  I am in the process of getting in ready for the summer.  So I was working on it today (out of the water) and started the engine....but after about 5 seconds, the engine rpms stared increasing without me touching anything (including the throttle), so I pulled the lanyard to kill the motor...but the engine kept going!!!  The engine ran for an additional 10 or so seconds after the lanyard had been pulled.

Any ideas as to what would cause that?  I'd hate to get on the water and be unable to kill the engine!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, you have a leak in your base gasket, or a leaking crankseal,
it's called dieseling,
you can choke him down when that happens, or pull of the feull line,
kill switch won't work,
you can even pull of the spark caps, it will still run,
It won't do in the water because of the backpressure on the engine,
but it's better to fix it first!

when that happens to someone the first time (me too) it's funny 'cause your scrambling to figure out how to shut it off, meanwhile the engine is just scremin'.
