I'm new to this forum and relatively new to riding, only a few years of weekly surf riding under my belt. Just pulled the engine and drive train out of my HX and LO AND BEHOLD I broke the rubber motor mounts again; too many hard landings. I first thought that a cracked engine support plate was the problem but after removing the engine and drive system (this was entirely not needed since I could slide the engine forward and removed it) I found that the plate is not cracked as I suspected. I'm replacing all the motor mounts and want to know if an overhaul of the entire system from intake to drive train and impeller would be a good idea. Maybe just a top O/H. The engine was rebuilt before I bought it and my guess is that I've put on less than 500 hours. The Hobbs meter, tach, and spedo was disconnected when I bought it. The engine is running great at speed (except that my friends on their slightly moded Kawi stand-ups leave me in the dust); however it vibrates like mad at idle. There is some cavitiation while at a stand still when I pull on full throttle but I HOPE a new wear ring and smoothed out impeller will fix this. Wave jumping action remains excellent so long as I maintain a good rpm before "flooring" it at the lip of the wave. I got it down so that I land softly (ass end first then throttle on) but when there is no surf one has to make DOO! If anyone can provide me with a better mount and a better setup for wave jumping I would appreciate it.
